Colorado, United States

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) has reported an outbreak of Salmonella, with over 250 cases identified statewide since July 1. This is a significant increase compared to the average of 125 cases typically reported in July over the past five years.

CDPHE is working with local health agencies, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to determine the source of the outbreak. So far, no specific food product, restaurant, or supplier has been linked to the cases.

The investigation is ongoing, with officials using whole genome sequencing to analyze the bacteria and identify related cases. The outbreak was first detected by Colorado's foodborne illness surveillance system, which identified the unusual rise in Salmonella cases.
