Update September 3rd, 2026:
The FDA and CDC reported that the multistate outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis infections has increased to 134 cases across 18 states, up from 98 previously reported cases. Illnesses began between November 21, 2025, and August 12, 2026. Among 54 ill people with available information, 46 (85%) reported eating eggs before becoming ill. Thirty-four people have been hospitalized, and no deaths have been reported.

During an FDA inspection at Midwest Poultry Services, L.P.’s Texas facilities, three environmental samples tested positive for Salmonella and matched the outbreak strain through whole-genome sequencing.

Based on epidemiological, laboratory, and traceback evidence, investigators determined that shell eggs produced by Midwest Poultry Services, L.P. in Texas were a likely source of illnesses in this outbreak.

The CDC has declared the outbreak over, and the FDA has completed its outbreak investigation.

July 26th, 2026:
Midwest Poultry Services, L.P. has recalled white shell eggs and brown cage-free shell eggs due to a Salmonella outbreak. The recall involves eggs sold under brands such as Country Morning and Kroger, with sell-by dates from July 20 to August 17, 2026. Ninety-eight people in 17 states have become ill, including 26 hospitalizations.

The recalled eggs were distributed to retail and foodservice locations in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, and New Mexico. The outbreak, linked to Salmonella Enteritidis, began with illnesses reported between November 2025 and June 2026. Most affected individuals reported eating eggs before becoming sick.

The outbreak was identified using laboratory, epidemiological, and traceback data. Testing at Midwest Poultry Services’ Texas farms found samples matching the outbreak strain, and these results were reported to the FDA on July 21, 2026. The investigation is ongoing.
